NEMO was founded in 1993 by Franco Cassina and Carolo Forcolini with the object of becoming a leader firm in the innovative and avant-garde design. The first designs were executed by Vico Magistretti and other international names with a view to develop a new range of products. In 1998 Nemo acquired Italiana Luce, producers of several classics as Dove and Logo by Barbaglia and Colombo, Jazz by Porsche. In 2001 with the acquisition of Meltemi, Nemo enters into the contract sector with simple and linear blown glass lamps created for the hospitality needs. During the same year it takes control of its French distributor, Artelux. In 2002 it takes over the Illuminating Experience company and enters the largest distribution network in United States. In 2003 the year is marked by the entry of Ara designed by Ilaria Marelli. In 2005 Karim Rashid designed his ceiling lamp-fan Frizzi. During the same year together with Cassina, Nemo enters the Poltrona Frau group (Sofas). In 2008 Nemo merges with its parent company becoming the Lighting Division of Cassina S.p.A. and purchases the historical Sirrah collection from Guzzini. Today Nemo wants to be an inspiration source in the lighting industry for anyone looking for pure shapes, following the continuity of an ancient tradition. Nemo starts from this concept to release some extraordinary pieces, a route full of reward and satisfactions. From its foundation in 1993 to the present time, Nemo's presence in Europe, in the Americas and in the Far East, has been confirmed through a very carefully selected network of distributors and retailers.
